(Health-NewsWire.Net, May 18, 2015 ) Chattanooga, TN -- Wellness and Lifestyle company Santulana is concerned about the amount of fruit juice which is being drunk with the intention of improving health.
Fruit is full of vitamins and antioxidants which help promote good health in those that eat it. However, too much fruit is not good for anyone as it contains high concentrations of natural sugars, which can lead to tooth decay and weight gain, which, in turn, can lead to heart problems.
The American Heart Association recommends that women should consume no more than 30 grams of sugar a day, and men, no more than 45 grams per day – that is only 6 and 9 teaspoons respectively. The USDA says that women, depending on their age, should have between 1½ and 2 cups of fruit per day and men should have no more than 2 cups per day. This is where care with fruit choice has to be taken, as 2 cups of grapes contains a massive 46 grams of natural sugar.
Fruits such as pineapples, mangos and dates have a very high sugar content; therefore one should rather go for green apples, kiwis and berries. Adding these low sugar fruits to juices containing cucumber and kale, or carrot and ginger, can substantially lower the amount of sugar consumed in a freshly pressed juice.
Freshly pressed juices are exceptionally beneficial to health but whole fruits should also be eaten to ensure the body gets enough fibre to maintain a healthy digestive system. Fruit juice does momentarily weaken the enamel on teeth – pineapple is the biggest culprit. It is therefore essential to wait at least thirty minutes after drinking a juice before picking up a toothbrush. One of the most important things to remember when drinking freshly pressed juices is that they are a highly concentrated food. Santulana recommends sitting down on a Swiss ball or stability ball while relaxing and slowly sipping and enjoying nature's bounty.
