(Health-NewsWire.Net, March 06, 2015 ) Beaverton, OR -- When Lumenuara debuted its reusable leak proof water bottle, it hoped for positive feedback from customers.
The company hasn't been surprised either. It's been for sale online only a few days, but people are showing their appreciation. Their first online review gave it a solid 5 stars.
"I love it. Perfect for in my handbag. Now I can take my filtered water with me wherever I go in glass. This is so much better for my health. I love both colors but I choose the Guava a lovely pink. The top is easy to hold and carry and plus it is easy to fill and drink from - no spills! I would total recommend this bottle to anyone," customer laral wrote.
That's much the same reaction the company got during the testing phase of the reusable water bottle.
"We created a prototype. It looked good, but we needed to know what people would think of it. So, we made more and gave them out to people whom we knew would give us honest feedback," said Kate Richards. "They all came back with positive opinions. The only negative feedback we got is that the glass is a bit heavier than plastic."
That's a minor trade-off to keep BPA and other harmful chemicals out of a bottle of water, Kate Richards said.
"You gotta look at it this way. You can take a bottle of water with you to the tennis court and play several matches. You take a break to drink some water. If you've got the water in a plastic bottle, you have to keep it out of the sun or the plastic is going to make the water taste funny," said JoLynne Bridges, a dedicated tennis player. "With this bottle, I can just leave it sit on the bench next to the court and the water tastes fine."
While the federal government has said trace amounts of BPA leaching from plastic water bottles is not harmful, new research is saying it could be harmful. Other chemicals can also move from a plastic container into the food or water the container holds. Research shows this can happen under just about any circumstances.
The bottle, made from glass with a silicone outer covering, is also eco friendly.
"I really like the idea that this is 100% recyclable. Glass can be infinitely recycled. That's all important to me. The silicone wraparound can also be recycled. Plastic is made from petroleum sources and we have enough of that already," said Larry Darbyshire. "You can buy a cheaper water bottle, heck some companies give them away for free. But you're not going to find a plastic water bottle that will not make your water taste funny."
The 16 ounce size proved to be a winner in the tests too, Kate Richards said. Those involved in the test marketing said it was large enough to quench a thirst and small enough to be easy to carry.
