(Health-NewsWire.Net, October 27, 2015 ) Miami, FL -- Safe needle exchange programs prove to reduce the numbers of HIV infection caused by intravenous drug use. On Tuesday, Oct. 20th, The House Health Quality Subcommitte sanctioned Katie Edward's proposal to introduce a needle exchange at the University of Miami, according to WFSU. Drug Florida Rehab applauds the pilot program and encourages the entire state of Florida to adopt similar programs for addicts struggling with addiction. Drug Florida Rehab is a detox and rehabilitation facility based in Miami, specializing in heroin rehab in Florida and drug rehab in Florida.
The new needle exchange program will be funded by private donations, and protects healthcare workers from prosecution for disseminating needles which may be used for drug related activities.
An associate from Drug Florida Rehab comments, "It's not about trying to stop an addict from using with a safe needle exchange program- that would be wonderful, but it's not realistic. Needle exchanges focus on helping to prevent deadly communicable diseases throughout communities with high addiction rates, and for the populace who comes into contact with them. Many who use safe needle exchange programs eventually do go to treatment- it's just a matter of when. If we can shelter them from having to live with a life altering disease during rehabilitation, our harm reduction strategies are working. We must also consider the health and safety of our medical workers who work closely with a high-risk population."
Drug Florida Rehab provides personally customized treatment plans for those with untreated substance use disorders, and focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy to redress addictive behaviors and tendencies. During treatment clients participate in gender groups, group therapy, relapse prevention therapy, and one on one cognitive behavioral therapy.
