(Health-NewsWire.Net, April 09, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, there are over 52 million Americans who are 18 years or older and have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. Half of this population is believed to experience physical limitations that hinder them from performing their everyday activities.
Experts consider arthritis to be a serious condition that limits the activities of millions of Americans. According to Ann M. Palmer, the CEO and president of The Arthritis Foundation, arthritis is a serious disease and the rate of disability is almost of epidemic proportions. She also noted that more than 22.7 percent of the United States population is suffering from the condition.
"What makes this even more alarming is that the number is expected to rise. This means more people will spend increasing amounts of money on medical costs, suffer from having a reduced quality of life, and be at risk for unemployment," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
The findings of the CDC, which were published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, have shown that there is an estimated increase of one million people each year with arthritis. This was based on surveys conducted between 2010 and 2012.
The increase was believed to be due to the aging population. It was expected that by 2030, there would be 67 million adults in the United States with arthritis. The limitations that arthritis patients often suffer from include difficulty climbing the stairs, bending and walking further than short distances.
According to Kamil Barbour, PhD, who is the lead author of the study and the CDC's Arthritis program's epidemiologist, 9.8 percent of the population suffers from activity limitations due to arthritis. There is an expected rise, but it is based on the aging population.
Aging and obesity are among the factors that are believed to largely contribute to the increase. One of the things that makes arthritis more difficult to deal with, is that it doesn't only cause pain and suffering, but it also increases the risk of disability. Those with arthritis are more prone to injuries that can cause them even more physical limitations.
Many arthritis patients are relying on some natural alternatives to achieve pain relief and regain their mobility. One of the most popular natural alternatives is the glucosamine supplement. This supplement has long been used for its potential to provide pain relief, even to patients who are suffering from severe arthritis pain (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
