(Health-NewsWire.Net, April 14, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- There are quite a few treatment options that are widely used today among arthritis patients, including drugs and non-drug alternatives. Organizations that help arthritis patients are providing some relevant information about the best treatments for the condition.
Osteoarthritis Research Society International has recommended 25 treatments for arthritis hip and knee pain. These treatments are a combination of drugs and non-drug remedies. This is something that would be extremely helpful to arthritis patients.
"There are two categories of recommendations, namely the drug treatments and non-drug alternatives. There is also a third category, which is surgery," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
The Arthritis Foundation has provided on its website the 11 non-medication treatments for arthritis pain. These treatments are: physical therapy, knee braces, footwear and insoles, heat and cold, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (or TENS), a rounded exercise program consisting of muscle-strengthening, aerobic and water-based exercises, and acupuncture. They also added that patients should have regular telephone contact and practice self-management.
There are a few drugs that are recommended for this condition. These drugs are: NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), hyaluronic acid injections, corticosteroid injections, topical analgesics, acetaminophen, and opioid and narcotic analgesics. The surgery category includes: joint replacement surgery, unicompartmental knee replacement, osteotomy and joint-preserving surgery, and joint lavage and arthroscopic debridement.
"There is also a natural alternative called glucosamine that is included in the drug remedy category. On The Arthritis Foundation's website, glucosamine is also suggested as an ideal supplement for the condition," added O'Sullivan.
The combination of glucosamine and chondroitin has long been believed to be very effective in helping arthritis patients. Both ingredients are considered natural and safe, and when they are used together, they can provide quite a number of health benefits. For arthritis patients, glucosamine and chondroitin can work together by providing pain relief and improving their mobility. Patients who suffer from pain and physical limitations can take advantage of these natural ingredients.
Patients who used glucosamine supplements and suffered from arthritis hip and knee pain claimed that they have indeed achieved the level of pain relief they were looking for. They also added that the natural alternatives did not cause them to suffer from side effects, which are often caused by drugs (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/).
