Smokers who were given omega-3 capsules every day for a month cut their cigarette consumption by compared to those given dummy pills. The study was controlled, meaning everything else given to the two groups was done at the same level. Yet, the group with the Omega-3 fatty acids through fish oil supplement quit using cigarettes by 11% more.
Rabinovitz Shenkar stated "The substances and medications used currently to help people reduce and quit smoking are not very effective and cause adverse effects that are not easy to cope with. The findings of this study indicated that omega-3 is an inexpensive and easily available dietary supplement with almost no side effects and reduces smoking significantly."
