(Health-NewsWire.Net, April 20, 2015 ) Chattanooga, TN -- Santulana would like to warn every one of the dangers of taking too much salt. Last week, Lacey Spears was found guilty of murdering her five year old son. The poor child had been in and out of hospital for years and was being fed through a feeding tube inserted into his stomach. Lacey Spears inserted high quantities of sodium into his feeding tube which slowly killed him.
A small quantity of salt is essential for a healthy body but large quantities of salt are known to cause heart disease and kidney problems. Too much salt can affect the nervous system and normal brain functions. The ideal amount of salt for a healthy adult is one teaspoon per day, which contains 2,300 mg of sodium. Children should have less than this, depending on their age and weight.
Alison Massey from the Mercy Medical Centre in Baltimore states, "Americans over the age of 51, Afro-Americans, those with high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease may need to limit their sodium intake even further to 1500 mg or half a teaspoon."
It is easy to control salt intake when preparing food at home but when eating out there is absolutely no way of knowing how much salt is in the food. The same applies to readymade meals and foods such as muffin mixes, bread mixes and sauces to name but a few. It is therefore essential to prepare foods at home from scratch as much as possible, to avoid eating too much salt.
Balance is the key to health. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Exercise regularly, incorporating aerobic exercises, such as running or cycling and stretching exercises, such as Pilates on an exercise ball or stability ball.
