• Ask about compensation or reimbursement if the luggage won't be available in a reasonable amount of time, but be aware that the term reasonable varies among carriers. Keep an itemized list of luggage contents.
• Social media is a powerful tool to contact customer service.
• Stay calm and be polite in the face of adversity. Verbal displays may help passengers let off steam, but are ultimately unproductive and could result in detainment by a TSA agent.
• In the event that luggage is truly lost and not just waiting for a connecting flight, travel insurance is the best option to recoup losses.
