According to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Health Department statistics, 'an estimated 1,539 adults and adolescents were diagnosed with HIV in Pennsylvania in 2011'. Though sex education and disease preventions are taught in Pennsylvania schools, among high-school students in Pennsylvania chlamydia was seen to be on the rise and a growing public health concern because of its stealth attack. The rise was most pronounced among blacks and Hispanics, where rates for STDs and social issues such as poverty and access to health care are intertwined. The rate rose most among Hispanic women, recorded as nearly twice that of white women while the black population also saw significant increases in the disease.
