The bill proposes that women who have used illegal drugs while pregnant should be prosecuted with assault if her child is to be harmed by the drug or born with an addiction as a result of her use of illegal narcotics. The proposed bill does further offer women the option to enroll in a treatment program while pregnant and remain in treatment upon delivery of their child in order to avoid be sentenced to jail.
