(Health-NewsWire.Net, April 24, 2015 ) Drug and Alcohol Rehab Charlotte -- North Carolina Attorney Roy Cooper believes that the issue of teens abusing prescription drugs in North Carolina is a serious problem which has continuously grown over the years. In his efforts to stop the growth of drug abuse among teens in North Carolina, Cooper recently visited Havelock High School and presented his annual Stop Rx Abuse video contest. Cooper encouraged each of the students he spoke in front of to participate in the contest and raise awareness among their peers.
The Stop Rx Abuse contest is a statewide initiative that encourages students in both middle and high school to create 30 second videos that discourage abuse of prescription drugs. The initiative was designed based off of the belief that students can better inspire their peers not to use prescription drugs.
During his appearance at Havelock High School Cooper stated, "Prescription drugs in North Carolina kill over 1,000 people per year. It's becoming one of the most deadly problems we face and we're seeing this problem increase in our schools."
Drug and Alcohol Rehab Charlotte agrees with Cooper's belief that the issue of drug abuse among teens needs to be talked about more in order for drug abuse rates to decrease. In order for drug abuse to decrease, awareness must be increased.
