(Health-NewsWire.Net, April 25, 2015 ) Drug Rehab Chicago -- According to Chicago Tribune on April 17th, a Park City Police officer helped revive a woman who reportedly crashed after an overdose. The police officer administered the woman naloxone, an opioid antagonist which works in treating overdoses. The act carried out by Officer Stoves helped save the woman's life from overdose.
The officer, Ken Stoves administered the 22-year old woman naloxone after witnesses reported that a vehicle had ran off the road on Route 120. When officers arrived they found the woman inside of the vehicle unresponsive, short of breath, and slumped over. After observing her car for evidence, police reports state that the officers observed evidence that confirmed the woman was potentially suffering from an overdose. As one officer checked for the woman's vital signs, Officer Stoves then administered the woman naloxone in attempt to revive her.
According to the police, after being administered the naloxone, the woman immediately regained consciousness and began breathing again. She was then admitted to the hospital for further medical attention.
As of November, The Lake County Opioid Initiative set their Naloxone Training program into motion. Thus far this initiative has helped save nine people from overdosing on drugs.
Drug Rehab Chicago medical associate comments "I think it's great that police officers are being trained on how to administer naloxone and are equipped with it in their squad cars. This initiative will definitely help continue to save lives. If it were up to me, all police officers across the nation would be trained on administering Naloxone to overdose victims."
