(Health-NewsWire.Net, May 06, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- The Arthritis Foundation has, through its website, provided a wide variety of information and guidelines for arthritis patients. It also included some tips about the conditions that arthritis patients commonly suffer from. In one of its posts, it featured arthritis and cholesterol.
Experts have provided some tips to help arthritis patients lower their cholesterol. Lowering one's cholesterol levels does not require taking new medications. As a matter of fact, making some dietary and lifestyle changes is one of the most effective ways of doing it.
"It is surprising to know that there are measures that can help with arthritis, and that are also effective in lowering one's cholesterol levels," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
There are ten ways to lower cholesterol, and one is to cut the fat. Patients should reduce their consumption of processed meats such as bologna, hot dogs and sausage. They also need to eat less ice cream, fried foods, lard, shortening and butter. Foods that can reduce cholesterol absorption in the intestine are also recommended. These foods are prunes, kidney beans, apples, oatmeal, peaches, broccoli and bananas. Experts suggest that every day, patients should consume about 10 grams of these food items.
Studies also showed that almonds and walnuts can reduce the LDL (or bad cholesterol) levels in the body. Healthcare providers suggest that those who want to reduce their LDL should consume these fats as a snack. They can also increase their consumption of seafood as it contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are believed to ease arthritis inflammation and reduce cholesterol levels.
"Changing your preference when it comes to choosing cooking ingredients can also help. For instance, instead of using the regular cooking oil, you can use a healthier option, which is olive oil," added O'Sullivan.
Consuming good oils can help reduce LDL cholesterol levels without jeopardizing the HDL, or good cholesterol levels. Experts suggest patients consume about two tablespoons of healthy oil every day to gain the benefits. What makes this even more interesting is that consuming healthy oil can also reduce arthritis inflammation. There are many things that patients can do to lower their cholesterol levels. They can choose fortified foods, such as margarine and yogurt, or drop a few pounds. It is also recommended that patients stay active, avoid smoking and consult with their healthcare provider. Doing all of these things can significantly help reduce bad cholesterol levels in the body.
Natural remedies are widely used by arthritis sufferers to improve their overall condition. One of these alternatives is known as the curcumin supplement. Curcumin is popularized by the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidants it contains (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
