(Health-NewsWire.Net, May 08, 2015 ) San Francisco, CA -- To assist athletes prevent injuries, CrossFit Chiang Mai coach, Barry Lavis, has released a new video demonstrating the proper use of WOD Nation resistance bands for lat and shoulder stretches.
Premiere CrossFit coach and trainer, Barry Lavis, emphasizes safety to the elite athletes he trains and part of that includes pre-exercise stretches to stretch, limber and enhance flexibility before beginning any CrossFit program. Lavis has endorsed the use of WOD Nation resistance bands CrossFit and demonstrates how to use them in his new video.
Stretching prior to any workout is essential, but that's especially true in CrossFit training where athletes push themselves with high-intensity movements. The lats are one of the largest muscle groups in the back and without proper care and stretching, they can easily sustain injury. Such an injury has the potential to transition into a chronic problem.
In the new video, Lavis explains how to select the right resistance for the individual and provides instruction in proper band placement. WOD Nation resistance bands are available in multiple resistance levels accommodate a variety of fitness abilities and can be used in combination. They're color coded to aid in appropriate selection, ranging from 10-35 lbs. at the low end to a maximum strength of 65-175 lbs.
He noted that stretching the lats and shoulders is a distraction exercise. He said most athletes fail to let the bands accomplish the work of stretching, adding that athletes should relax and use gentle movements. The warm-ups prescribed by Lavis can be completed in 30 to 60 seconds and provide maximum benefit. The WOD Nation bands can be used for any CrossFit warm-ups, stretches and for general, overall conditioning. They feature a 100 percent rubber latex construction that resists fraying and snapping, even with daily usage. The lats are used to perform lifts and vertical and horizontal pulling movements. Athletes are particularly susceptible to tight lats and it's the leading cause of chronic pain in the back and shoulders, manifesting as joint or muscle pain, along with tendonitis. The lats provide stability, strength, aid in performing bench presses, and provide the V-taper that's highly sought by many athletes.
Lavis' new video provides athletes at every stage of fitness with instruction and examples of the appropriate way to perform lat and shoulder stretches utilizing WOD Nation resistance bands.
