The glass water bottle design incorporates features that make it functional for use in place of any other conventional water bottle, but also serves several other functions.
"As a long-time practitioner of holistic medicine and acupuncture, I have coached people for years about the necessity of making sure they eliminate as many sources of chemical ingestion as possible," says Drew Perdichizzi, EAMP, LAc, of Seattle, Washington where he practices Five Element traditional acupuncture, and also Hawaiian style bodywork. "So many of our common and chronic health problems can be traced back to chemicals and artificial impurities in our environment and food. We are far healthier if we can get these poisons out of our bodies. We weren't meant to eat petroleum products. When plastics leach into our drinking water, that is exactly what we are doing. And that is a recipe for disaster long-term."
Perdichizzi goes on to tell how he had searched for reusable water bottles that were free of plastic. "But virtually all of them out there use a plastic lid! Kind of defeats the purpose," he notes with a wry smile.
"For years I've used old glass jars. You know, like you'd get when you buy apple sauce. They were my favorite, largely because I couldn't find anything better."
After many years of telling people to "just do the best they can," Perdichizzi finally decided to see if he could find a healthier "and more stylish" option. Buying a large number of bottles online, looking through the offerings at local retailers, he found nothing that really fit what he was looking for.
"And that's when I found it. I like to call it my 'bottle opus.' I call it the Sun bottle." He goes on to say that if combines the functionality of a great water bottle, with the ability to brew tea, use like coffee makers, and for fruit infusions. "All of the things I love most. I use it all the time."
He had the thought that he notes on his website, that "if I was going to bring it to his patients, why not the rest of the world?" Perdichizzi went on to found Nalu Drinkware, and is using social media and the power of popular movements toward health to drive the popularity of the bottle. Pinterest and Facebook both are effective tools for Perdichizzi. "The Nalu Sun bottle is just so attractive and eye-catching, it makes advertising it easy. And at the end of the day, it's about being healthier, living better, and enjoying the simple task of drinking enough water. We all know we should. This helps us with that."
