(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 10, 2015 ) Philadelphia, PA -- According to People Magazine, Anthony Riley from NBC's season 8 of The Voice has been found dead and his death is being ruled as a suicide. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that the 28-year-old musician hung himself. It has been reported that Riley's body was found inside the basement of the apartment building where he lived in the Center City area of Philadelphia. Riley was very popular in his hometown of Philadelphia, being named the city's best street performer by Philadelphia Magazine in 2014. He had became popular nationwide after being a contestant on season 8 of NBC's The Voice. The talented musician was chosen by all four of the judges immediately after singing James Brown's "I Got You" during his audition. Super producer and musician, Pharrell Williams had the opportunity of coaching Riley one-on-one during his time on the show. However, Riley's tenure on the show was short lived as he decided to leave the show in order to seek treatment for his problems with substance abuse.
Friends and family of Riley told Philadelphia Inquirer that although Riley had continued to struggle with his addiction upon leaving the show, he continued to work on a solo album. "He'd had his problems recently. But at the heart of all that was a very kind, gentle person," says Robby Parsons, a fellow musician who met Anthony Riley many years ago while both performed at Suburban Station. A medical associate from drug rehab Philadelphia comments "Many people don't realize that people who suffer from addiction and substance abuse are highly susceptible to committing suicide, it's a very sad reality. We constantly hear stories of people who committed suicide by overdosing, those are generally individuals battling against substance abuse and addiction. We've had plenty of patients who have come to get treated at our facilities stating that they decided to seek help because they had become suicidal. The admirable thing about Mr. Riley is that he knew he had a problem and instead of chasing his music dreams, he stepped own and decide to seek help first. It is unfortunate that he decided to take his own life. I hope that Mr. Riley's story is an inspiration to anyone who may be struggling with addiction or substance that even if you have to take a break from chasing your dreams to get clean, it's the best choice. I encourage anyone who is contemplating suicide and/or struggling with an addiction to seek professional help immediately, it could help save your life.."
