(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 12, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- An effective treatment is one of the indispensable needs of psoriatic patients and other people who are suffering from a medical condition. However, finding it has been very challenging for many patients.
A study revealed that many patients of psoriatic arthritis are undertreated. Psoriasis is an inflammatory, autoimmune skin disease and it often causes patients to suffer from scaly, red rashes.
According to the study that was published in JAMA dermatology, there are around half of the population of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis patients who are not satisfied with the treatment they are getting. It also added that a large percentage of the subjects in the study are either undertreated or not undergoing any treatment at all.
"It is believed that 30 percent of psoriasis patients are susceptible to developing psoriatic arthritis. This affects the joints and causes swelling, pain and potential damage. Treatment for both psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis include topical creams, oral drugs and phototherapy," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
April W. Armstong, M.D., assistant clinical professor of dermatology as well as director of the Clinical Research Unit at the University of California, stated that the dissatisfaction is more prevalent among psoriatic arthritis patients. They often have noticeable symptoms such as joint destruction, which is irreversible.
The National Psoriasis Foundation conducted a study that involved 5,604 patients with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. It was found that there were 23 to 49 percent of mild and moderate psoriasis patients who claimed that they were untreated and there were 9 to 30 percent with severe psoriasis who stated they were untreated.
There were patients who used topical treatments as they are known to have fewer side effects than drugs or other medications. Patients also stated that their disease was not severe enough for medications and their healthcare provider would not prescribe other treatments.
Doctors recommend that they get in touch with their healthcare provider, such as their dermatologist and rheumatologist. They need to discuss the things that are happening with their joints and skin. Doing this will significantly help doctors resort to treatment measures that are ideal for their patients.
There are many arthritis sufferers who use a wide variety of treatments in addition to pain relief drugs. Many of these people claimed that using natural alternatives, such as curcumin supplements, have significantly helped them achieve pain relief.
Curcumin is known to be very therapeutic and it is the key ingredient of a medicinal spice called turmeric. It is popularized by the antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties it contains (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
