(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 22, 2015 ) New Hampshire -- According to The Bedford Path, federal agents say that they seized over 1,200 doses of heroin from a couple who had been dealing drugs in the Manchester area.
Tiffany Ramos and her boyfriend Hector Bienvenido Mateo-Beltre, were arrested and charged with possession of drugs with the intent to distribute. Authorities say that Ramos sold heroin to one of their informants on three occasions. When she was finally arrested for the crime, authorities say she had about 125 grams of drugs in her bra. They also shared that Mateo-Beltre allegedly had 200 grams of heroin in his possession when he was arrested.
Ramos could face up to 20 years of imprisonment, and Mateo-Beltre could face up to 40 years.
"DEA's exceptional work in this case led to the removal of nearly 1200 doses of heroin from the streets of our state. Our office is committed to combatting the rise in heroin distribution in New Hampshire. We will work with our law enforcement partners to identify, investigate and prosecute those who engage in trafficking this dangerous drug." U.S. Attorney Donald Feith said in a statement.
The DEA had been investigating the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra M. Walsh has been assigned to prosecute the case.
The heroin epidemic is currently a rising issue in New Hampshire, in the beginning of 2015, New Hampshire's Governor Maggie Hassan deemed heroin abuse as one of the most pressing public health and safety challenges facing the state of New Hampshire.
A medical associate from Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire comments "As a state we need to do more to crack down on the heroin epidemic which is taking place here in New Hampshire. It is shocking to see a young woman dealing such a high volumes of drugs, it's disheartening how easy it is for dealers to distribute heroin on to our streets. We must continue to investigate drug rings and bust drug dealers as a means to help keep heroin off of our streets. I am hopeful that the continuation of investigations and drug busts will help put a significant decline in heroin on the streets."
