(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 26, 2015 ) Baltimore, MD -- According to CBS Baltimore, the DEA are using several highway billboards to post surveillance photos of a multitude of people who were suspected in the robberies of Baltimore pharmacies.
The have been posted as a means to help federal agents find suspects who participated in the robberies of over 30 pharmacies in Baltimore. The billboards showcase surveillance photos every other minute of the 40 suspects, as a means to help identify who they are, according to DEA spokesperson Dean Ellerman. Ellerman has also shared with CBS Baltimore that a few of the suspects have been identified thus far.
"We're trying to identify the people, number one, and number two, we're trying to get some information of the people who could identify other people," said Ellerman.
According to federal agents, during the rioting after the death of Freddie Gray, 30 pharmacies had been ransacked. Nearly 300,00 doses oof drugs had been stolen during these riots as an act of looting local stores. The riots took place in April, however the city of Baltimore is still dealing with the aftermath of having countless drugs flooding their streets.
Some communities in Baltimore had been left with little to no medication as an immediate result of the riots, according to the DEA. One owner of a local pharmacy told CBS Baltimore "Everyone came in that day, we really had no drugs to give them."
A Medical associate from Drug Rehab Baltimore comments"I think the highway billboards are definitely a great way for the DEA to capture those who have stolen drugs from pharmacies. Hopefully the feds' can capture these suspects and recover the drugs that they have stolen. It's scary to know that there's a plethora of drugs flooding our already drug-ridden streets. We need to stop those people from contaminated our streets with those large quantities of drugs that they have taken. I truly applaud the DEA for their efforts in trying to keep drugs off of the streets of Baltimore. We see enough drug addicts come through our doors at our drug rehab in Baltimore, I would hope to see a decline in the number of patients we treat instead of an increase."
