(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 29, 2015 ) Charlotte, NC -- According to WITN, Governor Pat McCrory has signed House Bill 909, which states that distilleries in the state of North Carolina will now be able to sell their liquor right where they make it. However, there are still some provisions, the bill also states that distilleries will only be prohibited from selling more than one bottle of their alcohol to an individual customer once annually.
Mother Earth Brewing owners Stephen Hill and Trent Mooring are looking forward to the bill going into effect in October. The two owners believe that the new bill will give distilleries a marketing a revenue boost. Hill shared his sentiments about the bill with WITN, "They say they want to buy a bottle. Well you have to go down the street," says Hill. "They never make it down the street. Now they can buy it right on the spot take it home with them. It means a lot for us, for tourism for us, and tourism in the state."
Mother Earth Brewing is among the 25 distilleries within the state that will be able to take full advantage of the new bill.
With the new law going into effect October 1, 2015, distilleries will now be required by law to keep electronic records of customers' names, birthdate, and driver's license number to prevent customers from being sold more than one bottle per year.
In addition to allowing distilleries to sell alcohol directly to its customers, House Bill 909 has also banned the sale of powdered alcohol in the state of North Carolina.
A medical associate from Drug and Alcohol Rehab Charlotte comments "If there weren't limitations set on the bill I would totally be against it, but I think the government is doing a great job in regulating this new law. I agree that it would definitely help distilleries financially, and in my opinion all legal businesses should be supported in our state, especially small ones. I believe that with customers only being allowed to purchase one bottle per year that they will be less inclined to binge drink due to their limitation of not being able to get another bottle for another year. I am hopeful that this new law will work out for the best and that no harm comes of this. I would also like to add that I am happy that powdered alcohol has been banned, as I believe that imposed a great danger."
