(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 29, 2015 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- Florida gun store owner Ron Perkinson claims that he has a bulletproof plan to carry out his idea of mixing shots and shotgun at his shooting range.
According to New York Daily News, Perkinson, owner of Volusia Top Gun, wants to combine his Daytona Beach gun store with an indoor shooting range that serves alcoholic beverages. Perkinson gained inspiration from the model of at least one other gun range in the country which has successfully combined the two. "I'm doing something that's already been done. It's a tried-and-true safe system that actually works. It's actually a little safer than it would be not to have it all under the same roof." Perkinson shared with Daily News.
Perkinson is readily prepared for the scrutiny that will come with his "booze and bullets" plan, however he stated that the protocols that will we established and the building reinforcements around the building will be the key to easing concerns. "Guns will not be allowed in the cafe area, whether a customer is drinking or not," said Perkinson, according to New York Daily News. Perkinson also plans to enforce a three drink limitation, all customers who drink will be required to have their ID's scanned after the third drink, which will then prohibit them from entering the gun range for 24 hours.
Similar models are in place in states such as Oklahoma which had a shooting range which captured headlines last year for serving booze at a cafe on-site of a shooting range. "We haven't had a single incident. It's gone well," Wilshire Gun general manager Brad Carroll told the Daily News. Carroll shared that Wilshire Gun had to gain permission from the Oklahoma City Council before they began serving alcohol at their gun range. Wilshire Gun also practices prohibiting those who have consumed alcohol from the shooting range.
According to reports, Perkinson is planning to open the on-site cafe at Volusia Top Gun by the end of the year, he is currently awaiting for permit approvals from the city of Daytona Beach, which will allow him to build and 8-inch wide concrete shield around the shooting range.
