(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 30, 2015 ) Charlotte, NC -- According to The Charlotte Observer, a 3-year-old boy is dead after a car accident in which his mother was the driver. The mother has been arrested in connection with the fatal accident which occurred near Charlotte airport.
Charlotte-Macklenburg Police believes speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the car accident. As a result of the accident a 3-year-old boy died and a 7-year-old was seriously injured.
According to reports Chantee Tranise Boyd, 26. was reportedly speeding in a Honda accoord along Billy Graham Parkway while her two children were in the vehicle. Boyd eventually lost control of the vehicle and drove the vehicle off of the left side of the lane heading southbound into a median.
Police say the vehicle then spun and hit a guardrail in the median and into the northbound lane of Billy Graham Parkway before the rear end of her car hit a Lincoln Continental head on. When the car finally stopped it ended up om the right shoulder of the northbound lanes on the road.
Upon arrival of medics, the 3-year-old boy was reportedly pronounced dead on the scene. The 7-year-old boy had suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Carolinas Medical Center. Boyd and the driver of the Lincoln Continental were also taken into Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries, according to police reports.
Boyd has been arrested with multiple charges including felony death by vehicle felony serious injury, two counts of felony child abuse, reckless driving, and driving while impaired.
Police are currently investigating the fatal crash.
An associate from Drug and Alcohol Rehab Charlotte comments "It's very disheartening that some parents put their children in these unfortunate situations, which sometimes end fatally. Those young boys had no choice in whether or not they had to ride in the car with their mother. It's quite disturbing that she would even drive while under the influence, and speed with her children in the car. This is a prime example of how alcohol causes individuals to make poor decisions and how others have to suffer from it. An innocent child is now gone and another severely injured and without his younger brother. I am hopeful that this is a wake up call for parents statewide and nationwide, not only should you not drink and drive, but don't drink and drive with children in the car. I would suggest that the judge who's assigned this case will require Boyd to attend alcohol rehab in Charlotte, in addition to whatever jail time she may serve."
