(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 30, 2015 ) Philadelphia, PA -- According to ABC News, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives have passed the bill to ban powdered alcohol in the state of Pennsylvania. With House Bill 1196 being approved, it means that there is now an outlaw on the sale, use and/or possession of powdered alcohol, or Palcohol.
Palcohol, is powdered or crystallized alcohol which has been freeze-dried. The product is packaged into small packets and then mixed with water to create an alcoholic beverage.
According to the sponsor of the bill, State Representative Leslie Acosta (D-Philadelphia), she believes that minors would be able to get their hands on the powdered alcohol product too easily She also added that many health experts have also voiced concerns about the risk of using powdered alcohol including abuse and over consumption.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has already prohibited that the sale of powdered alcohol in state stores. According to reports, earlier this year the Wolf administration supported the state liquor regulators decision to prohibit the sale of powdered alcohol in the state. The next step for House Bill 1196 is to now move on to the Senate for further consideration.
A medical associate from Drug Rehab Philadelphia comments "I am excited that the approval of this bill is making progress and that legislators are in agreement to ban this dangerous product. I share the same beliefs as Representative Acosta that this product would make alcohol more accessible for minors. We are currently in an uphill battle to keep minors in our states from underage drinking, I believe this would only add to the problem. I am remaining hopeful that the Senate will approve the bill also so that we can keep this product out of our state."
