(Health-NewsWire.Net, June 30, 2015 ) Clearwater, FL -- "The desire to enjoy a quality drink is timeless," says Old & Urban VP, James Hunter, "and mixed drinks are probably nearly as old. I'm sure people have been making their drinks taste better for ages. But the cocktail as we think of it, and especially elaborate cocktails, are a fairly recent sensation, and within their window of existence have undergone revolutions in popularity." One of the more popular cocktails of those bygone eras was a vodka drink known as the Moscow Mule, which was served in its own mug. This was a specific copper mug, and it has been gaining popularity in the latest cocktail revolution. Old & Urban now offers a version of this classic mug.
"Demand is bringing these back," says Mr. Hunter. "The Moscow Mule has a storied history, and the mug it was served in was a gorgeous piece. We've recreated that original and are featuring it on our site, and people are snapping them up."
The Moscow Mule is both a mug, and a drink. The original cocktail was made with vodka, ginger beer, lime juice and garnished with a wedge of lime. It was named for the primary ingredient, vodka, and the capital of the famous vodka producing country, Russia. The first Moscow Mule was mixed in California in 1941, and it later became very popular during the 1950's vodka craze in the US. In later decades, as unique cocktails surged in popularity, it became a favorite among celebrities and was served in many Las Vegas clubs. When it was first made a copper mug was chosen for the Moscow Mule, as copper was known to provide a desirable enhancement to the flavor of citrus drinks. The copper sharpened the lime flavoring. After that the mug became a core part of the drink's ingredients and the mug soon took on the name of the drink itself, the Moscow Mule.
"Plus the copper is great for cool drinks," says Mr. Hunter. "Perfect for summer."
The Moscow Mule Mug is made of solid, hammered copper with no nickel or tin lining. The handle is also copper, and is welded to the body, not riveted. It comes in a quality storage box.
