(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 01, 2015 ) San Francisco, CA -- The shoulders are used for a lot of exercises. In order to make sure that the shoulders are ready for snatch, muscle ups, pull ups, strict press, and other exercises that put stress on shoulder muscles, warming up the shoulders is important. In his video, Barry Lavis shows that one can open up the shoulder muscles and prep them for training with the use of the WOD Nation resistance band.
According to Lavis, the dynamic movement he demonstrates to loosen up the shoulders can benefit not only athletes but also those who are sedentary and are hunched over their desks for long periods of time. Hunching and poor posture result to shoulder pain just like exercises can result to injury if muscles are not properly stretched and warmed up.
In his video, Lavis uses a red WOD Nation resistance band. It is the thinnest WOD Nation resistance band. These WOD Nation bands are color-coded according to resistance levels. Red has the only 10-35 pounds of resistance. Shoulder stretches are not strength exercises and do not require heavy bands. For other exercises that require more resistance levels, WOD Nation has resistance bands with resistance levels as much 175 pounds. They can also be used in combination to suit one's preferred resistance.
The shoulder stretches demonstrated in the video are: overhead, front, back, and passthroughs. All of these stretches require only 15 reps and do not require too much strength. They will not leave an athlete too tired for other exercises but they will prepare the muscles and help reduce the risk of injuries. The warm ups prescribed by Lavis take around 60 seconds and that short period of time can already provide maximum benefit.
Warming up the shoulders prior to training helps reduce pain and risk of injury. It can also help alleviate pain brought about by poor posture. Stretching the shoulders with a WOD Nation resistance band is one way in warming up the shoulder muscles easily and quickly.
