(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 06, 2015 ) Philadelphia, PA -- According to Yahoo Health News, researchers have found that European-Americans with light colored eyes including blue, green, gray, and brown in the middle, have higher rates of alcohol dependency.The study suggests that light-colored eye people are more susceptible for developing a dependency on alcohol than their peers with dark-colored eyes. The study also found that blue-eyed people had the highest rates of alcohol dependency among the 1,263 European-American research participants which had been studied.
A researcher involved in the study, Dawei Li , says they still don't know the reason between the link, however they did discover that the specific genes which determine eye color are within the same chromosome as genes that are known to be associated with alcohol dependency.
A link between alcohol dependence and eye color had been found in 2002 study conducted by Georgia State University. Researchers of this study concluded that within one sample set of women, females with dark eyes averaged comparably lower at 4.91 drugs in the last month to an average of 5.78 in females with light eyes.
According to reports from the Medical Daily, blue eyes additionally correlate with various attributes such as decreased pain tolerance and increased competitiveness. Arvis Sulovari, a research associate from the University of Vermont study, says these research findings are useful in his statement " This suggests an intriguing possibility -- that eye color can be useful in the clinic for alcohol dependence diagnosis". Sulovari and his team of researchers claim these have the possibility to help better understand the roots of alcohol dependency, but varying psychiatric problems in addition.
