(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 15, 2015 ) Westendorf, Tirol -- The term organic in relation to food production is open to interpretation. For most individuals, organic indicates that no manmade chemicals have been used to grow a food or control pests. Helga Reidmann, founder of Mountainbreeze Naturals and the producer of a popular all-natural tea tree oil antifungal soap, noted that consumers should exercise due diligence in their organic purchases.
"Government rules and guidelines indicate that "organic" foods may be grown or processed with the aid of scores of synthetic substances as long as those chemicals have been deemed essential," said Riedmann. "Consumers should read labels and question the ingredients in products before buying."
What few consumers know is that the rules governing organics is governed by the National Organic Standards Board, a 15-member committee that establishes what pesticides, fertilizers and additives can be used to grow food and still be considered organic. The board is comprised of USDA selected farmers, processors and organic experts who weigh the organic ideal against practical farming.
Many foods and products display an organic label, but that doesn't mean the items are free of manmade chemicals. There are multiple levels of organic certifications recognized by the government that are based on how the product was produced, but it doesn't mean they're 100 percent organic. Some can be labeled organic if the chemicals, ingredients or methods are deemed essential by the government.
Those essential ingredients span a laundry list of ingredients, from chemicals designed to prevent potatoes from sprouting during storage to chemicals used to prevent strawberries from falling prey to slugs and snails. While experts admit that there are organic methods that work, they claim they're not as effective and are reducing profit margins.
Consumers that want organic products must read labels closely to determine that they're truly organic. There are approximately 200 chemicals that producers can use and still claim an organic label.
Mountainbreeze Natural is among an elite group of companies that offer products that are 100 percent natural and just one of the reasons the firm’s tea tree oil antifungal soap is so popular with consumers.
