(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 16, 2015 ) Florida, Port Saint Lucie -- A study conducted at the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Penn, suggests that there is a link between low levels of vitamin D and various types of cancer. Blood samples were collected from 160 men and women with cancer and the levels of vitamin D were measured. It was found that 42% of the individuals had a vitamin D insufficiency, and a further 32% were vitamin D deficient.
A spokesperson for B-U Supplements said, "There is a growing body of research which links vitamin D to lower cancer mortality. The importance of this vitamin is often underestimated, and this is the reason that B-U Supplements chose to launch our Vitamin D3 drops for children and adults. We wanted to offer a supplement that was easy to take for all members of the family."
Due to the fact that vitamin D is not found in significant quantities in food sources, the body requires sunlight in order to produce vitamin D. Owing to the fact that people are spending less time in the sun has led to vitamin D deficiency on a global basis. A study published in 2008 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, concluded that 10 times more lives would be saved from cancer prevention if everyone doubled their sunlight exposure than would be lost from fatal skin cancers.
Furthermore, research has also shown that lack of vitamin D may be one of the factors contributing to other sicknesses such as depression and heart disease. It has been suggested that blood levels of vitamin D are a good indicator of overall health.
The daily serving of vitamin D varies from person to person and the most accurate way to know the ideal dose would be by having a blood test done to determine current vitamin D levels. On average, a healthy human body uses 3,000 to 5,000 IU of vitamin D per day. Also, taking Vitamin D at night may disrupt sleep as it temporarily halts the production of melatonin, so it should be taken in the morning.
