(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 22, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Turmeric has been popularized by the health benefits associated with its use. It is one of the kitchen ingredients that has long been part of Indian traditional medicine. While it is widely used by individuals suffering from arthritis who are looking for pain relief, there may be other remarkable health benefits associated with it.
Turmeric could potentially help the brain heal itself. The spice can be incorporated into one's diet by adding it into dishes. It can be obtained through its powder form or through a dietary supplement. Turmeric is a great addition to preparing dishes since it adds a very distinct flavor.
The Stem Cell Research and Therapy published a new study that reveals turmeric could potentially boost the ability of the brain to repair itself. A compound found in turmeric known as aromatic turmerone was used in the animal-based study.
The Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine researchers injected the compound into a rat's brain where the neutral stem cells were located. Afterward, they scanned the brain and noticed that some parts of it were more active. After conducting the entire process, it was found that the infusion caused the increase in the capacity of the rat's brain to do self-repair by 80 percent.
Dr. Adele Rueger, a researcher and the lead study author from the University Hospital of Cologne and the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, states that their findings about aromatic turmerone have helped them move one step closer towards achieving their goal. According to Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center, the findings of the study could potentially improve the medicine used for neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Hungtington's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.
Harvard also added that the number of individuals in the United States who will suffer from brain-related problems will jump to 12 million if diseases continue to go unchecked.
"In addition to aromatic turmerone, turmeric is also popularized by its key ingredient called curcumin," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.
While it has not been established yet whether turmeric can act as modern medicine, experts suggest that people should consider using turmeric and incorporate it into their diet. Doing so could potentially benefit them in case turmeric can help repair the human brain.
Those who don't want to use turmeric powder may take advantage of turmeric or curcumin supplements. They are widely available in the market, and some of the best ones even contain a black pepper extract known as BioPerine, which is believed to be helpful in increasing nutrient absorption in the body (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/).
