(Health-NewsWire.Net, July 27, 2015 ) Olympia, Washington -- • Back, hip or knee pain • Tight IT bands or shin splints • Ball-of-foot pain • Plantar Fasciitis and Morton's Neuroma
According to The Burden of Musculoskeletal Diseases in the United States, a ten year study by the National Institute of Health, musculoskeletal disorders are the leading cause of disability and account for more than half of all chronic pain conditions in America.
Leading edge medical professionals like Dr. Janet Travel who with Dr. Simons studied every muscle in the human body, their attachments, innervation, function and motion have published that foot mechanics is a main perpetuator of chronic muscle pain.
In recent years a lot of energy has been invested in developing equipment that can determine the pressure distribution under the feet, but Posture Dynamics has developed a low tech method that allows anyone to reliably analyze their foot mechanics without costs, appointments or pressure to purchase orthotics.
"People sometimes ask if we're psychics", says Melady Svae, President of Posture Dynamics, "because when callers tell us what their shoes look like we can tell them where they hurt". Posture Dynamics discovered that shoe wear patterns work as well if not better than those expensive color pressure mapping systems found in some stores and doctor's offices. The reason is that most of those scans are static. More expensive systems offer a dynamic recording where the patient walks across a pressure plate, and some can even record pressures inside the shoes when walking, but still, shoes, because the wear pattern is recorded over millions of steps provide the most accurate dynamic recording of a person's gait and body mechanics.
The study took advantage of the western world luxury of driving and walking on smooth surfaces, so just like the car tires rolling on the road, shoes walking on flat pavement become a reflection of the mechanics that happens above, the suspension, or in the case of humans, ankle, knee and hip movement. Pain in the right knee may cause someone to favor the left leg. Limitations in mobility, like a stiff ankle will cause harder wear under the ball-of-the foot, or an uneven bite may cause one foot to pronate more than the other. The most common foot mechanics issues associated with over and under pronation (supination) and muscular compensation will be reflected in the wear pattern of the shoes.
While color scanners have contributed to help some types of foot pain, they have not contributed to a better understanding of why so many people try to supinate their feet. Posture Dynamics has invested years in developing and verifying a process that combines shoe wear patterns with a structural foot assessment and has determined that a supinated gait pattern is a neuromuscular compensation for structural over-pronation. The full assessment process is now available free of charge to the general public on their website www.mortonsfoot.com so anyone can access the information and evaluate their own foot mechanics to better understand why they suffer from body pain or if they are predisposed to chronic pain issues as they age.
"The pressure signals the brain picks up from the balls of the feet greatly influences balance, muscle activation, posture and gait." Explains Bjorn Svae, cofounder of GRD BioTech, Inc. "Our experience along with the experience of hundreds of our affiliated medical professionals worldwide clearly indicate that people who structurally over-pronate and freely follow their foot structure develop a collapsed posture. A majority, however, subconsciously try to fight the collapse by shifting weight to the lateral side of their feet (supinate). This neuromuscular response causes the latter group to become muscularly braced and rigid. Although this group tend to have better posture and suffer less from joint pain they often pay the price of instability and painful muscles."
ProKinetics brand of neuromuscular correction insoles are distributed by Posture Dynamics worldwide through doctors and therapists, and are now available on the web including on AMAZON.
About Posture Dynamics
Posture Dynamics was founded in 1998 to develop a concept by an "outside-the-box" thinking podiatrist. With cooperation of clinicians and specialists worldwide the Kinetic Technology has been refined and incorporated in inexpensive and easy to use insoles that effectively improves foot and body mechanics and posture. Posture Dynamics devotes a lot of energy to educating both medical professionals and the public on the importance of good posture as a first defense against chronic musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain.
