"Just seeing that change does not mean the fungus is gone. The nail needs to be trimmed and be allowed to grow out completely. Greene indicated that not all tea tree oil in the marketplace are effective at nail fungus treatment. She suggests the consumers inquire about the chemical composition and look for the level of a certain component.
"Researchers tell us the active component of tea tree oil that aids in killing the fungus is terpinen-4-ol," said Greene. "Our brand contains 42.6% of that component which is much higher than our competitor's brands."
"Many brands indicate they are pure tea tree oil," Greene went on to explain. "However, some of these are diluted with fillers and not 100% pure. You can usually tell by smelling them if they are not the real deal. Once you smell real tea tree oil, it is not a smell you soon forget."
