(Health-NewsWire.Net, August 10, 2015 ) Blythewood, SC -- Drs. Travis and Jenna Zigler, co-owners of both Eye Love LLC and their private optometry office, Advanced Family Eye Care , have recently begun providing eye exams to the less fortunate in South Carolina. Their work is currently being done at Midlands Eye Clinic in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.
According to the clinic's website, Midlands Eye Clinic is funded by both The United Way and Palmetto Health. The clinic has been in operation since 2012 and has partnered with licensed volunteer optometrists to provide free comprehensive eye care (eye health and vision exams, prescriptions, and eyeglasses) to adults in Richland County. To be eligible for a comprehensive exam, patients must show that they are at less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty level, at least 18 years of age, and have no access to vision insurance. The doctors examined their first round of patients recently, screening them for diabetic eye disease and treating glaucoma where needed. Patients also receive a new pair of glasses at no cost, if a prescription is needed.
The Ziglers currently split their time between running Advanced Family Eye Care in Blythewood, South Carolina and their new sunglass business, Eye Love LLC. They are hopeful that through sunglass purchases with Eye Love, they will be able to fund eye exams for the less fortunate not only in South Carolina, but also during their mission trips to Jamaica. The couple has already been on four international optometric missions and looks forward to upcoming trips, in addition to their service in South Carolina.
