(Health-NewsWire.Net, August 10, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Turmeric is an internationally popular ancient, medicinal spice that is believed to combat an extensive range of diseases. It contains a phytochemical called curcumin, which plays a major role in the spice's ability to produce health benefits. Today, curcumin has been widely studied by researchers and scientists.
One animal-based study reveals curcumin could help reduce LDL cholesterol levels. Many studies have been conducted to determine or validate the health effects potentially offered by curcumin. Many of these studies have revealed that indeed curcumin offers a myriad of health benefits.
"For people who want to take advantage of the health benefits offered by the spice, curcumin supplements are available," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.
The animal-based study involved rats that were fed a diet low in fiber and high in saturated fats. The subject animals were also made to consume curcumin for 8 weeks. It was found that the rats being fed with curcumin experienced a reduction in serum triglyceride levels by 27 percent, in LDL cholesterol by 56 percent, and total cholesterol by 33 percent.
It was also found that there was a reduction in the low-density lipoprotein levels, and the blockage in the arteries of the rats also decreased by 20 percent. The findings of the study demonstrate that turmeric could help avoid plaque buildup as well as stroke and heart disease.
According to experts, curcumin in the blood could send signals to the liver cells. These signals serve as a command to make the liver cells produce more mRNA. This results in an increased production of LDL cholesterol receptors. It also helps the liver cells to eliminate the bad cholesterol from the body.
As a result, the bad cholesterol levels are reduced and plaque buildup is prevented. The researchers also added that the liver cells treated with 10µm of curcumin have resulted in the 7-fold increase in the mRNA production than the cells that were not treated with curcumin.
Today, many people from around the world are using natural alternatives to combat diseases. Curcumin supplements are some of the most popular natural remedies, and this is due to the fact that they have successfully helped improve the overall health conditions of many people.
Curcumin is believed to offer a myriad of therapeutic benefits. However, it has low bioavailability, and this means its absorption inside the body is limited. Experts recommend the use of curcumin supplements with bioavailability enhancing ingredients such as BioPerine, which is a black pepper extract (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
