(Health-NewsWire.Net, August 10, 2015 ) Lodi, WI -- As part of it's recent effort to provide comprehensive information to all foam roller users and potential users regarding best foam rolling practices, CS Athletic Gear shared five methods for a more effective foam rolling experience.
The first method is to take it slow. Plowing right through the deep tissue of a bound up muscle too quickly will likely hurt more than it helps. Instead of forcing a foam roller through a sensitive muscle, it is better to ease the roller into the edge of a tight muscle as far as comfortably possible. Leave the roller in that spot until the muscle begins to release, and then slowly edge the roller forward, working through the muscle bit by bit.
The second method is to take deep, easy breaths, focusing on "letting go" of the muscle that is being rolled. Easy, deep breathing helps to avoid the tendency to "fire" or "tense" one's muscles, making it easier for the roller to work through those tight spots.
The third method is to focus on clearing the mind while working through one's muscles. The spirit and the body are undeniably connected. The catharsis of releasing bound muscles provides a perfect synergistic opportunity to simultaneously clear one's head.
The fourth method is to lighten the weight placed on the foam roller. While it is always better in theory to completely release a muscle, sometimes the pain of working that deeply into the muscle is too great. In such cases, simply ease up. Gently working over an unusually tight or sensitive area over time will allow the roller to gradually work more deeply into the tissue for increasingly better results.
The firth, and final method is consistency. Using a foam roller regularly helps to keep muscles from getting painfully tight, and allows one to more effectively obtain a deep tissue massage.
