(Health-NewsWire.Net, August 28, 2015 ) Scottsdale , Arizona -- CopperMules is introducing the cocktail trend of the season, Moscow Mules, and offering Copper Mugs as the vessel of choice.
Darla Buckstrom of Tyler, Texas emphasizes her preference for the copper mug when drinking the Moscow Mule. "The idea that the copper tinge or taste played into how the cocktail was supposed to taste didn't make sense to me before I got these (copper mugs) but now that I've muddled up a few, I get it The whole thing wouldn't be complete without the "twang" that the copper gives. Love these things."
Just as many cocktails require a highball or martini glass, the copper mug is rapidly becoming a requirement for the Moscow Mule.
Moscow Mule's History
Copper was the metal of choice for mugs thousands of years ago. In ancient Ireland, people drank their spirits from a copper goblet called an escra, and the yogis of India used copper cups because for their health-giving benefits. In America, colonists drank from copper mugs and named their drinking vessel of choice, the Virginia tankard. The tankard was always made of copper and held three cups of spirits. This large tankard is still popular in some out of the way pubs and bars.
Time travel to 1941 when John Martin sat down to drink with his friend Jack Morgan, who owned the Cock ‘n Bull pub on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. While Martin bemoaned his vodka sales, Morgan was complaining about his ginger beers sales. A third participant in this tale of woe owned 2000 copper mugs that she could not sell. Enter a brainstorm. What if all three combined their products? Mix the vodka and ginger beer with a dash of lime juice and serve in copper mugs. The Moscow Mule was born.
Thus began one of the most successful marketing campaigns in vodka history. Martin had the mugs engraved with the names of celebrities, gave them their cups, filled with the ingredients for a Moscow Mule and a star was born. Celebrities like Julie Newmar, Woody Allen, and Dolores Hawkins modeled with the drink in hand, and the name Moscow Mule emblazoned across the page.
The sales of the drink were spurred on by the Hollywood set and their love for the latest alcohol trends. Copper mug sales took off and today the cocktail, Moscow Mule, is not considered a "mule" without the mug.
CopperMules is offering $18 off sets of 4 when purchasing through Amazon using coupon code XDXBTT95.
About Copper Mules
Being huge fans of the Moscow Mule, the Dalton's were getting tired of drinking them from mugs that were nickel-lined, not 100% copper or had been lacquered both inside and out which defeated the purpose of using them.
They decided to get back to the 'roots' of the classic cocktail and make Moscow Mule mugs the way they were meant to be... Solid, sturdy and with exposed copper on the inside of the mug to enhance the experience.
Copper Mules is owned by the Dalton family and is located on the outskirts of Scottsdale, Arizona. The Dalton's are dedicated to bringing the true experience of the Moscow Mule back to the consumer.
