(Health-NewsWire.Net, September 02, 2015 ) Maple Valley , Washington -- Essential oils' company Ovvio Oils published a short but informative piece on ‘super-lice'. According to a recent study, lice population in 25 U.S. states have developed gene mutation that make them resistant to popular over-the-counter medication.
"A lot of our customers are parents with school-going kids, and these parents have to tackle head lice infestation often. We wanted to provide them with information regarding the finding so they can be better prepared to deal with the problem," Dayna Slater, founder and co-owner of the company said.
The blog piece titled ‘Super-lice: Here's what you should know' focuses on the findings of Dr. Kyong Yoon, Ph.D., from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He collected lice samples from 30 states, and his findings revealed lice populations from 25 states had undergone gene mutations which made them resistant to popular treatments.
The blog also discusses which treatments the lice have developed resistance towards. It also includes a handy map which shows the 25 states where the ‘super-lice' has emerged.
While lice do not carry any diseases, they can be quite a nuisance due to the constant itching they cause. Lice problems are common among school going children where intermingling leads to a lot of head-to-head contacts which in turn allows the bug to move from one person to another.
