(Health-NewsWire.Net, October 19, 2015 ) Santa Rosa, CA -- Locally owned organic health & beauty business Fat Buddha today announced plans to launch a new line of USDA certified organic essential oils in an effort to reduce the use of harmful pesticides used worldwide to grow the crops required to produce their more common non-organic counterparts.
The product launch comes amid growing concern regarding the impact of commonly used pesticides on the global environment. New research published by the National Academy of Sciences shows that 80% of pesticides found in worldwide freshwater sediments exceed regulatory limits, posing a "significant risk to global biodiversity", according to the researchers.
Past studies have also shown a possible link between the use of pesticides and certain types of cancer, in particular pancreatic and skin cancer. The findings add to evidence suggesting that frequent use of pesticides could raise the risk of melanoma. Rates of the disease have tripled in the United States in the last 30 years, with sun exposure identified as the major cause.
The researchers identified six pesticides that, with repeated exposure, doubled the risk of skin cancer among farmers and other workers who applied the chemicals to crops.
"Consumers after often unaware of the impact that non-organic growing practices have on the environment and also on their body, due to the residual impurities that are left in many products they use every day. We launched this business to help increase awareness and to give customers a better, healthier alternative so they can support organic farming practices worldwide." said co-founder, Simon McVeigh.
The company's founders stated they will donate 1% of all profits towards projects designed to support organic farming practices and promote awareness of the impact of agrochemicals on the environment.
