HOW SMARTPHONE IMPACTS SLEEP
Switch off your mobile phone at 9 pm and you will wake up feeling more positive and productive both at professional and personal fronts.
As per a research conducted by the University of Washington, using your phone till late at night can affect the circadian rhythm and impact the quality of sleep. This will definitely put a negative spin on your work the next day.
Christopher Barnes, an assistant professor of management at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business who is the leader of research says that “smartphones are enormously valuable for helping people to fit work activity into times and places outside of the office. But unfortunately, smartphones are almost perfectly designed to disrupt sleep.”
Stating the obvious reason is because it keeps us mentally alert all through the day making it hard for the brain to register the fact that it is time to hit the sack. The exposure to red/blue light from electronic gadgets also reduces the production of melatonin hormone which is vital for sleep.
It is important to keep your brain high and active at all times especially in the morning when you are starting your day. “The more important the job, the more important it is to work with a fresh brain”, says researchers.
