(Health-NewsWire.Net, September 18, 2015 ) London, UK -- Following the success of expanding the reach of the use of peppermint oil in aromatherapy to providing relief for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), new research results suggest that the oil can also be used to encourage weight loss.
In 2011, the efficacy of the used of peppermint essential oil in treating IBS has been demonstrated through an Australian-based study that revealed how the oil actually triggers the colon to induce anti-pain stimuli. The reaction enables the body to naturally alleviate the pain caused by the inflammation. The study further suggests that this positive effect is made possible by the menthol content of peppermint oil, which help block the calcium channels resulting to the relaxation of the intestinal walls.
In response to this study, many IBS patients began carrying bottles of Regal Earth Peppermint Essential Oil or similar products, wherever they go. Using the 2011 results as a spring-board, the Iranian University of Mohaghegh Arbabili conducted a new study that aimed to show how peppermint oil can help improve exercise performance. Peppermint's antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties showed significant impact in reducing fatigue and muscle pain. The study lasted for 10 days and was participated by 12 healthy individuals. The participant drank water mixed with a controlled amount of commercial-grade peppermint oil, just like Regal Earth Peppermint Oil.
After the 10-day trial, the participants showed a significant improvement in their expenditure of energy during exercise, as well as in their respiratory function. The participants showed less signs of exhaustion as compared to those who were not supplemented with peppermint-boosted water. Their heart rates and blood pressure levels also improved. Based on these results, the researchers came into a conclusion that peppermint oil may indeed encourage weight loss by enhancing the metabolism of muscular energy.
In another study published by the Chicago Tribune in 2011, it was found out that people who are exposed to the scent of peppermint oil every two hours felt less hungry than those who were not. Apparently, people who inhaled peppermint oil, even from commercially bottled products like the Regal Earth Peppermint Essential Oil, tend to consume 2800 calories less than those who were not exposed to peppermint scent.
