(Health-NewsWire.Net, October 27, 2015 ) Chattanooga, TN -- Yvonne Hitchcock, a director of Santulana, is concerned about the growing obesity among children the world over: "Too many children, spend too much time sitting in front of the TV or glued to their computers and tablets. Parents must lead by example, showing their children that stretching and exercise should be lifelong habits, which promote healthy bodies and longevity."
Canada's Physical Activity Guide to Healthy Active Living for Children outlines three different forms of exercise which are essential for the health of children. These are flexibility, endurance and strength exercises.
Flexibility is improved through stretching exercises. These exercises can be performed with or without an exercise band, depending on the age of the child. Whether an exercise band is used for stretching or not, stretching exercises are important to a child's immediate and future flexibility. Children are naturally flexible and it is only when they reach their teen years, that this flexibility can start to fade. If children are constantly encouraged to promote flexibility through stretching, their flexibility will not wane as they get older.
Strength exercises for children do not generally include weights as children naturally use their own body weight to strength train through play. This includes such activities as play wrestling, hand stands and tree climbing.
Endurance exercises are essential for a healthy heart and to oxygenate the body's cells. Children naturally run everywhere the minute they are able but as they get older they may decide that the couch and the TV or laptop holds a greater attraction. Parents who exercise regularly are leading by example. When children see their parents making various exercise activities a part of their daily lives and enjoying it, they will naturally follow suit.
