download What customers say about Up-4-It.fit (Health-NewsWire.Net, March 04, 2016 ) Exeter, Devon -- Up-4-It.fit is adding content to it's website so that customers can find out information relating to their sore knees more easily.
"Here at Up-4-It.fit we like to keep an eye on the knee," says Nigel Manning, MD at Up-4-It.fit. "The knee is one of the hardest working joints in the human body, and one of the most complicated. More than 10 million people visit a doctor with knee injuries each year."
"Helping people with sore knees is our business, and that's why I've been talking to personal trainer Jon Lewis. Jon works out at our local gym, but he's also a knee expert and has agreed to give us some interesting knee facts."
Jon says "I've worked out, and worked in the leisure industry, for over 10 years. In that time I've seen a lot of knee injuries, including my own ACL tear, and helped a lot of people recover from their knee injuries." Jon has put together a list of interesting knee facts for Up-4-It.fit to put on their website for their customers, including:
-There are four bones that meet at the knee; the femur or thigh bone, the tibia or shin bone, and the patella or kneecap, which form the knee joint. The fibula attaches to the back of the knee but has more to do with ankle mobility than the knee.
-Without the patella the knee joint would simply buckle, as the tibia and femur don't meet in a ball and socket type of joint, like the shoulder for example. Ligaments attach to the three bones of the knee and allow the quadriceps (thigh muscles) to move the lower leg even when the leg is completely straight.
-The load on the knee joint can be up to 5 times body weight even in normal day to day activities like descending stairs.
-The stresses acting on the knee make it a major site for development of osteoarthritis in later life, affecting an estimated 27 million Americans.
-Babies are born without kneecaps - they don't appear until the child is at least 2 years old. And our knobbly knee are as unique as our fingerprints.
"When someone suffers a knee injury they can get a lot of advice on how to deal with it, sometimes conflicting advice. And there's a lot of strands to consider, but for me, it is most important to remember that the knee joint doesn't exist in isolation," says Jon. "What I mean is, don't respond to a knee problem with knee exercises; do knee, upper and lower leg, hip, ankle, foot and core exercise."
The message from Up-4-It.fit and personal trainer Jon is; exercise to prevent knee injury. And should knee injury occur, exercise appropriately to treat and overcome it.
"Amazing Knee Facts" will be available to view on Up-4-It.fit's website soon, along with many more tips and informative articles.
