(Health-NewsWire.Net, March 18, 2016 ) Miami, FL -- The Miami Herald reports that the FIU chapter of Phi Gamma Delta is under investigation following the accidental overdose of a pre-nursing student, Kellie Fullilove, on November 14th, 2015. While her death was ruled an accident, the fraternity hosting the party she was attending at the time of her overdose is now under investigations following reports that a member of Phi Gamma Delta bragged about supplying cocaine across the school. It has since been revealed that the fraternity was suspended by the school following the death of Fullilove and it is no longer chartered due to multiple facebook posts regarding drugs and hazing. Sean Velasquez, the member accused of bragging about the fraternity's drug dealing, is facing criminal and civil charges.
Miami Drug Rehab, a prominent provider of drug treatment in Miami, knows how easily substance abuse can integrate itself into parties among young college students. Impressionable and vulnerable to suggestiveness, young people can find themselves travelling down a dangerous path. In the case of the fraternity members of Phi Gamma Delta at FIU, Miami Drug Rehab believes they should be held responsible for their actions, as they have expressed a lack of compassion and care for those whose lives they have endangered or derailed.
A representative of Miami Drug Rehab comments,
"The type of disregard for the law and the lives of those they tampered with these young men have expressed is disheartening, to say the least. Going so far as to brag about peddling cocaine at an educational institution may be a sign of their own immaturity, however, with the deadly consequences of their drug dealing and partying, it is important not to forget the victims of their profiteering. While we do believe they should be held accountable, at the very basis of this case is a silent epidemic of substance abuse throughout South Florida which we need to address and remedy."
