(Health-NewsWire.Net, October 26, 2019 ) Mercy for Animals (MFA), a farm animal rights organization, hosted its 20th annual Hidden Heroes Gala at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on September 14th.
The celebration began with a star-studded VIP reception and an unforgettable “blue carpet” experience with some of Hollywood’s most notable animal advocates, including Kevin Smith, Rob Zombie, Kat Von D, Charo and Joaquin Phoenix, star of the 'Joker'.
The evening featured a powerful program with delicious plant-based food and a lively after-party under the stars. In the end, supporters generously gave $1.2 million to support Mercy For Animals’ vital work - the most ever raised in the gala’s history!
The organization’s undercover investigations into factory farms and slaughterhouses have led to landmark legal reforms, and their campaigns have moved food industry giants, including McDonald’s, Walmart, and Nestlé to adopt stronger animal welfare policies.
Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone was honored with the Hope Award and undercover investigator David Webb received the Compassionate Courage Award. Other awards included MFA's Compassionate Leadership Award given to musician and songwriter Tom Scholz and activist Kim Scholz.
Founded in 1999, Mercy For Animals is a leading global nonprofit working to end the exploitation of animals for food and construct a compassionate food system. Active on three continents, the organization has conducted more than 70 investigations of factory farms and slaughterhouses, moved more than 300 food companies to adopt animal welfare policies, and helped pass historic legislation to ban cages for farmed animals.
